Know Your Enemy, Know Yourself : Who's the Target?

 

This is genuinely fun.

First, I want to understand the big targets (whales, institutions, and the like) in detail. You have to know your enemy, right?

I was thinking of this target in such abstract terms, but it turns out there are probably a surprising number of concrete ones out there.

 

Who?

 

What makes good prey for a nimble hyena like us?

None other than the elephant—too big and heavy to move quickly.

e.g., traditional asset managers and pension funds like Vanguard and BlackRock; leveraged hedge funds, crypto long-short funds, crypto foundations, early miners, VCs, large quant firms, Citadel, Jump Trading (the Chicago-based ultra-high-frequency quant firm), Wintermute (the UK crypto market-making firm).

 

What are their traits?

 

The larger a player operates, the more visible its movements become—and the more legal and structural obligations it inevitably takes on.
